Settling In

Hi net nerds, I'm breifly back from the strange world of real life. I have good news again, I got another temp job before I even finished my first job. It's in the Events Department of a HR company... 100m from Westminster Abbey!!! You step out the building and look left and there it is looking straight at you... It's literally at the end of the street. It's so close you can't see anything else, and you could easily walk up to it in a minite. Well that's pretty typical of me... I tend to get exited about the simple things in life, as Kate once pointed out - mainly views. The job is not so exciting so far but it pays well and hopefully there'll be more interaction with other staff in the future. At the moment I'm trying to find out which hot-shot business men are available for a dinner... actually that's also what I was doing in the last job. I figure it's such easy work that I'll get so bored that I get all inspired and do so well that I take over the business... hmmm... Life in London is moving along smoothly, I have been busy for a while so I'm not as lonely anymore. It feels like I've been here for ages, I can't beleive it's only been 3 weeks cos I feel like I know the city really well. I think it is quickly becoming my home. Spring is arriving and the blossoms are out...trees around our street are absolutely smothered with dense bunches of pink and white petals. I hope they last a while, it's still pretty cold and wet so the poor trees are pretty soggy. I haven't really missed home much, except when I got my package from home yesterday and looked at all my photos of friends and family. I also couldn't resist breaking some leaves off the eucalypt in Jeannette & Steves backyard and having a good sniff. Oh yeah I tried something very English while I was at Steve's - Fosters! It actually wasn't that bad, I quite enjoyed it. They have the most gorgeous border collie, I had to put up with 2 hours of none stop ball games just so I could get a cuddles once he was exhausted. I do miss Scottie, even though he's a shit : ) And mum I miss you as well, much more than scottie in fact! I think my favourite thing about London is the variety of people. Although Australia is multicultural it is nothing compared to London. When you listen to people on the street only around a third are speaking English with a Pommy accent. A huge percentage are Australian, including around 80% of the population of Perth. You also hear a large variety of African, Asian and Arabic conversations, not to mention Russian, Canadian, New Zealand, South African, Italian, Spanish and the very obvious french. It's easy to spot the French from quite far away and even easier to spot Quebequers, they're the skinny ones in black. I love the multicultural side of this city, it's so refreshing to meet someone and not know what their accent is going to be. I've been out with Adam and Claire quite a bit since I've been here and even when I'm not out one of our freshly 'borrowed' stella artois pint glasses is full of beer at home. I have never drunk so much beer in my life. I've also never walked so much (well for a while anyway) so there beer isn't causing a huge problem. On the weekend we went out quite a bit. After a hard day's shopping at Camden Markets we had Thai food with one of Claire's Uni mates and her boyfriend then went out for beer. I am definitely voting for the tube to stay open later, it is a serious joke for one of the biggest cities in the world to close up at 11:30. On Sunday we went with Claire's 3rd cousin Jack to watch Claire's other 3rd cousin John run in the Marathon. That was excellent, it took us two tube stops and a couple of hour to spot him but we finally did in Westminster. It really is so amazing being here, I can't beleive I watched to London Marathon within the shadows of Big Ben and actually knew the guy that was flying through the pack with only a couple of k's to go. John was amazing, I think he placed within around the top 20% of runners and beat his last time by 5 minutes. When John was coming up to Westminster Claire was a few hundred metres further up than us and when she and Adam sprinted to tell us he was coming they only just beat him, and he'd run 20 odd miles that pace! Well that's all for me little nerdies, might pop back some other time... who knows... it could be in an hour or it could be months...only time and how crap BBC is can tell... Becky P.S. Stayed up till midnight sunday to watch BBC's best albums of ALL TIME! I was quite pleased when my bet that Ok computer would be in the top 10 was realised... it was NO 1. P.P.S. While we're on pop culture has anyone seen Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy yet? See who's playing Arthur Dent? And what the hell happened to Zaphod's second head? Guess #I'll have to watch it.

hey!
yay - thanks for posting again!
haven't seen the hitchhiker's guide yet but it opens in a week or so here - i'll be there for sure.
Kino Chris being the well connected media guy he is - either went (or a friend of his went) to the Hitchhiker's press junket here - and - AND - got his copy of the office signed by Tim! ... he he and he wrote "Cock!" on it too ... ahh rude words ...
and i was looking through the promo book and saw how zaphod's head works - spoilt it for myself - just go watch it!
cool to see that you're settling in and finding a home - and like a gazillion jobs with great views!
i know batteries and cd's are all sooo expensive but with your newly earned millions could you take a couple of snaps of these fantastic views and post em?
